Detailed description of Plum Creek Golf Course

Plum Creek Golf Course is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Kyle, Texas.

The golf course at Plum Creek Golf Club first opened in 1999.

Located on more than 200 acres, Plum Creek winds through the beautiful Texas Hill Country. The golf course features 18 championship holes of golf, each with its own unique character. Plum Creek Golf Club has the distinction of having a layout where no two fairways touch. The advanced golfer can take the Texas-size challenge of playing from the back tees, which measure over 7,100 yards. Four sets of tee boxes offer a fun and exciting round of golf for every handicap.

At over 7100 yards, the Black tees play to a par 72 with a course rating of 74.0 and a slope rating of 125. From the forward tees, the course measures 4,876 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 2, a par-5 that plays to 659 yards and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The shortest hole on the course is # 8, a par-3 that plays to 150 yards from the back tees. The easiest hole is # 13, a 184 yard par-3.

Their three sets of forward tees, Blue-6,443 yards, White-5,754 yards and Red-4,876 yards, allow you the flexibility to choose the Plum Creek challenge that is right for you.

Plum Creek provides a driving range and practice facility. Golf instruction is available, as are a complete pro-shop and snack bar.

This course is in good shape but they keep having to change holes, routing, etc. to allow more apartments or houses to be built. Pretty soon they will have really fouled it up as the newly incorporated holes have no flow to them and add no value to the course.

This is a update to my last review of this course. The condition of the fairways and greens is the best in this part of Texas. The only concern would be pace of play and that is not real bad. Also they are doing some changes to the course layout and this has some temporary roads in place. They need to be sure the new layout and added apartments do not have a negative effect on the course and its condition.

Bottom line: I would play again, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing, Ranks with the best in this price level

Plum Creek has everything you could want in a golf course except shade. I think this is what gives the course its "links"-type reputation, but I wouldn't think of it as such. There was more topographical variety here than I expected, and the layout takes advantage of what changes there are to their full effect. Previous comments below take note of the lack of yardage indicators. I thought there'd have been more help there too, but hopefully that will be part of the course's planned (and in-progress) upgrade to host the Texas State University Bobcats and NCAA Division I golf. AS SUCH, NOTE THE FOLLOWING TEMPORARY CHANGES: It's playing to a par of 70 for now, not 72. Although the 10th hole is closed, it remains an 18-hole layout by taking the par-5 15th hole and turning it into two holes; a short par-4 with a temporary green, and a short par-3 with the existing green from 15. Also, the opening hole is shortened considerably, but is still a par-4. These should be seen as temporary and very minor inconveniences, if you could even call them that, to an otherwise top-notch public layout.

Course changed hands at auction last week - so we'll see what happens. Fairways & greens are good. Brush and poor trees have been removed since 2 years ago, so grip it & rip it. Needs more yardage markers. Very few houses on course. Good general manager.

Would travel: 20-30 Miles
Bottom line: I would play again, Best course in the area

Windy days are bad on this course and you need to know the course. Few if any distance markers to help. Has been improved since I first played it and they have built a better clubhouse and pro shop. I just do not think the fees charged are right as I would reduce them $5 or include range balls in the price.

Awesome greens. Don't leave a put aboce the hole ! It might run off the green. Fairways still plush. New club house being built that is huge !

Signficant price changes recently to the twilight rate without any corresponding enhancements to the golf course (ones that are obvious anyway). The only mitigating factor is that you can still bring your own beer to the course. I understand that too will soon change. At that point, I will probably not return. With $4 a gallon fuel, I simply cannot afford to pay more.

Bottom line: Better courses for less nearby

Only course in Kyle, and they hike up the prices as a result. Club features golf only - no tennis, swimming, etc, so family membership is out of the question. As for the course itself, it is great when you keep the ball in the fairway, but quickly becomes frustrating if you don't. The rough is far too brushy and overgrown. Balls that could be found on other courses are lost. Lawn crew was also discourteous - they continued to mow in circles around the green during our approach! Pace of play is nice and quick on a weekday. I would play this course much more often if they knocked $10 off the prices across the board.
